چکیده

This paper presents a hybrid scavenger grid as an underlying hardware architecture for search services within digital libraries. The hybrid scavenger grid consists of both dedicated servers and dynamic resources in the form of idle workstations to handle mediumto large-scale search engine workloads. The dedicated resources are expected to have reliable and predictable behaviour. The dynamic resources are used opportunistically without any guarantees of availability. Test results confirmed that indexing performance is directly related to the size of the hybrid grid and intranet networking does not play a major role. A systemefficiency and cost-effectiveness comparison of a grid and a multiprocessor machine showed that for workloads of modest to large sizes, the grid architecture delivers better throughput per unit cost than themultiprocessor, at a system efficiency that is comparable to that of the multiprocessor.

A Distributed Control Architecture for Autonomous Operation of a Hybrid AC/DC Microgrid System

Hybrid AC/DC microgrids facilitate the procedure of DC power connection into the conventional AC power system by developing the distributed generations (DGs) technologies. The conversion processes between AC and DC electrical powers are more convenient by hybrid systems. In this paper, an energy management system (EMS) for a hybrid microgrid network is proposed due to the optimal utilization of...

On Indexing Multidimensional Data In A P2P Context

Based on their remarkable properties (fault tolerance, scalability, decentralization), P2P systems tend to be largely accepted as a common support for deploying massively distributed data management applications. Some of the existing P2P systems are built over hybrid networks where certain peers are specialized in indexing. Others make use of DHTs as common support for data indexing. However, o...

Humboldt Discoverer: A semantic P2P index for PDMS

Recently, Peer Data Management Systems (PDMS) came into the focus of research as a natural extension to distributed databases in the peer-to-peer (P2P) context. A PDMS consists of a set of peers, each of which acts as an information integration component. Queries submitted to one peer are answered by local data as well as by data that is reachable along paths of mappings through the network of ...

An Open Distributed System for Web Information Indexing and Searching based on Web Views

The task of indexing and searching information in the World-Wide Web face scale problems with Web size and growth. We argue that this is due, in part, to the centralized nature of Web indexing systems currently in use. This paper proposes an open distributed Web View-based system to deal with these problems. The concept of Web View is introduced, the system architecture is presented, and it is ...
